Job Summary

Colorado Christian University is currently looking for qualified instructors to become affiliate faculty. The University's faculty is a group of experienced professionals who are able to integrate their evangelical Christian faith in the classroom and help disciple the next generation of Christian leaders.

The Nursing Clinical Affiliate Faculty is responsible to the nursing faculty in the performance of instructional responsibilities in the clinical setting and/or skills/simulation laboratory. The clinical faculty has ongoing responsibility to evaluating student learning in the practice setting. The clinical faculty coordinates and collaborates with nursing faculty to teach, supervise and assess nursing students in skills/simulation laboratory and/or clinical experiences by providing excellence in instruction and assisting students to gain mastery in skill competency, clinical reasoning and professional practice. the role of the clinical faculty is to assist students to apply knowledge and skills to care of patients and clients. The Clinical Faculty is physically present or immediately accessible to students in the clinical setting. The Clinical Faculty participates in the affairs of the program, the Division, the profession, and the community. The ratio of clinical faculty to nursing student may vary by clinical setting.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Teach, supervise and evaluate (both formative and summative evaluation) nursing students in the laboratory or clinical setting during assigned clinical or laboratory rotations.
  2. Plan and maintain an environment conducive to the teaching and learning process.
  3. Plan and implement effective clinical environments for learning and instruction in the clinical simulation laboratory, and/or clinical setting that reflect an understanding of the program's philosophy, objectives, and curriculum.
  4. Utilize a variety of appropriate teaching strategies, including technology, to correlate and enhance teaching in the clinical setting or skills/simulation laboratory setting.
  5. Identify learning needs of individual students and plan experiences to meet those needs.
  6. Assess student achievement of curricular objectives/outcomes related to nursing knowledge and practice in the clinical setting, or skill/simulation laboratory.
  7. Assist students in their own self-evaluation and spiritual formation.
  8. Provide feedback on the course, clinical experiences, skills lab, simulation, and student learning modalities.
  9. Keep educational records as required and evaluate student performance.
  10. Attend regular meetings, committee meetings, orientation and training sessions as directed by the lead course faculty and the Director, Clinical Education and/or Director, Skills/Simulation Education.
  1. An active license in good standing to practice as a registered nurse in Colorado
  2. Documented experience in the area of instruction
  3. Two (2) years of full time, or equivalent, professional nursing clinical experience
  4. One (1) year of clinical experience relevant to the area of responsibility
  5. A minimum of a graduate degree in nursing, or if a graduate degree in a field other than nursing, evidence that the degree is in a field relevant to the area of study.

Nature of Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, you will be required to walk and stand in laboratory and patient care settings for up to 12 hours at a time, manage multiple priorities, communicate with students, staff and nursing faculty, and exhibit positive coping mechanisms under stress. Working irregular hours, including evenings and weekends is expected. Local travel is required. Grading assignments may involve extended periods of time at a computer keyboard or workstation.
